Dr. Sarah Yvonne Jimenez is a registered nurse and assistant professor at the University of Texas at El Paso’s College of Nursing. She has an extensive clinical background in neonatal intensive care, maternal and child health nursing, and nursing education. Her dissertation research examined emotional intelligence and resilience in undergraduate nursing students and the influence of these traits on NCLEX-RN preparation testing. She is an early career researcher in the area of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias with a focus on Latinx and Indigenous populations living on the U.S.-Mexico Border. Currently, she is exploring the usefulness of culturally and linguistically relevant educational comics in promoting brain health and dementia knowledge among Latinx women and family caregivers. Her research interests include the identification of factors that impact existing health disparities among minority populations and the exploration of interventions that enhance mental health and well-being among those living with dementia and their care providers/partners. She is a volunteer and Board member of the Alzheimer’s Association West Texas chapter. She holds professional memberships and is active in Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, the National Association of Hispanic Nurses, the American Nurses Association, the Gerontological Society of America, and the Alzheimer’s Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer’s Research and Treatment (ISTAART). She is the President of the Texas Nurses Association’s District 1 and was selected as a fellow to the UsAgainstAlzheimer’s Brain Health Equity Fellowship in 2023.
