Dr. Miriam Jocelyn Rodriguez obtained her doctoral degree with a specialization in clinical neuropsychology from Nova Southeastern University and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. She is currently an Associate Professor at Albizu University, a Hispanic serving institution of higher education in Miami, Fl.
Through her collaboration with the 1Florida Alzheimer’s disease research center (ADRC), Dr. Rodriguez has published in several peer reviewed journal articles, presented at national conferences, and has received extramural funding and awards. In 2021, she was the recipient of the Butler William’s Scholarship, a competitive NIA funded program that provides training in aging research. Her work has contributed towards the training of under-served Hispanic doctoral level students and has aimed to identify health disparities among under-served Hispanic older adults at risk for Alzheimer’s disease (AD).
Dr. Rodriguez is PI of studies focused on the identification of multicultural factors that account for differences in the manifestation of AD symptoms, cognitive performance, and brain atrophy among Hispanic older adults. Dr. Rodriguez’ research focus is in the area of cross-cultural neuropsychology and on identifying factors that are unique to the Hispanic population, such as cultural factors, acculturation level and education, which contribute towards the risk and protection against AD. Her methods of study include examination of neuropsychological performance and AD biomarkers including MRI imaging, amyloid (PET scan) imaging, and genetic biomarkers.
